Customs & Immigration: An Anecdote

Sharing is caring!

On the way back from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico…right after our honeymoon, we had to go through customs and immigration in order to re-enter the United States. This isn’t really news. We do this every time we leave the country on a trip.

You arrive by plane at the airport and disembark. Then you go through immigration, pick-up your luggage, and head to customs. It’s never a fun process but it is necessary.

But this time was different.

Usually, Alfred and I go to separate machines to fill out our paperwork. This time we were able to go to one machine and file our paperwork as a family. This may not seem like a huge deal but to me, it was.

It was tangible evidence that our federal government considers my husband and I a family. It was such a transient moment but it’ll remain in my heart for as long as I live.

We ARE a family and I love that!
