6 Romantic Things To Do In The Galapagos Islands

The Galapagos Islands are one of the most incredible places on the planet. Highly protected with highly regulated access, it’s one of the few places in the world where you can visit and see it in a natural, undisturbed state (for the most part). Just remember, you can’t visit the islands without a guide and you should never touch the animals.
Most importantly, I think the Galapagos Islands are a great place to visit with your lover, partner, or friend. Yes, the islands can be quite romantic. They are rather secluded and take effort to get to but once you do, you’re in for a world of amazement. Exploring these natural wonders with someone you love is an excellent opportunity for bonding and learning about one another.

The solitude of the islands makes it impossible to focus on work. There is no WiFi and no cell phone service. That means you can take the time to breathe and focus on your loved one. It’s a rare respite in such a connected and busy world. While you find yourself with so much time to do other things, you might use the opportunity to grow closer with your loved on. Here are a few romantic things you can do while in the Galapagos Islands.

1) Charter a Cruise through the islands

There really is no better way to see the islands. An all-inclusive cruise makes the experience even more fun. There are all sorts of cruises you can charter and I’ve discussed them here. Use your time on your small yacht or cruise ship to snuggle up and read together, play board games, or simply hang out and chat. One of our favorite things to do was watch the sunset each evening over the ocean as we headed to our next destination.

2) Couple’s hike6 Romantic Things To Do In The Galapagos Islands - My Normal Gay Life

When you head to the Galapagos Islands, hiking is a given. You will hike quite a lot and you’ll need to in order to see all the wildlife.  As you hike together, take it all in. Think about the fact you are exploring one of the great natural wonders of the world together. Use this time to take in all the Galapagos beauty and channel that sense of wonder into your relationship. After all, it isn’t everyday or every couple who gets to to explore such a unique environment together.

3) Romantic dinner on a boat

While you’re on your chartered cruise, why not have dinner for two al fresco. Take your dinner on the top deck of the boat under the stars or at sunset. There’s nothing like enjoying great food in the midst of nature.

4) Bravely approach wild animals within 6 feet

One of the best aspects of visiting the Galapagos is you’re pretty much assured to have encounters with wildlife. The fauna of the Galapagos is not afraid of human beings which means you can’t get super close. Actually, you can legally get up to 6 feet from wildlife. Any closer and you are putting yourself as well as the wildlife in danger. Having this experience with a loved one is kind of incredible…it’s a story you will both be able to share for the rest of your life.

5) Wander through the small town of Puerto Ayora

The small town of Puerto Ayora is one of the only places where humans are permitted to live in the Galapagos.  It’s a charming little town filled with restaurants, bars, shops, and is also home to the Darwin Center. Take the time to explore it and visit Diego (the turtle who saved his species) at the Darwin Center. A romantic dinner, a relaxed coffee, or a little shopping is always a good way to spend some time with your loved one.

6) Snorkel with the fish

This was something I was afraid to do because i’s very intimidating. But getting into the water and taking part in this activity with my husband was pretty fulfilling. It was incredible to see the fish, sea lions, rays, and sharks swimming along in their natural habitat.  Having these kinds of experiences with your partner makes you grow closer and makes your relationship stronger.
