Ok, so, I’ve always wanted to try parasailing. It just looks so awesome when someone is floating a few hundred feet in the air (38 stories really) over the ocean. Parasailing adventure travel activities are the least crazy of them all but it always scared the crap out of me. Once, Alfred and I were visiting Ft. Meyers, Florida and there was an opportunity to parasail. I was all about it then at the last moment I started to feel apprehensive and chickened out.
That was that.
Then we went to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Our resort was right on the beach and there happened to be a small company offering a parasailing experience. I had a few days to think about it and finally worked myself up to it.
Let me tell you, there is nothing to be afraid of at all. Yes, you’re hanging hundreds of feet in the air from a parachute attached to a boat by a rope. Yes, that’s really high and there is an astronomically small chance you could fall out. But there’s nothing to worry about. I felt pretty secure sitting that high in the air and it was so amazing to see the ocean and surrounding landscape from that vantage point.
The people in charge of making it happen are pretty knowledgeable and can answer any questions you might have. They also train you fairly quickly on how to come back down to Earth when the ride is over. Would I do it again? Heck yes! It was amazing and rather relaxing. Of course there are people (you might be one) who would never even consider doing something as wild as this. But it’s not that wild and your safer up there then you are crossing the street.
So take a chance and have a little fun. Here are 5 reasons you should give parasailing a try!
1) It’s Affordable
It cost practically nothing to have a parasailing experience if you look at other water sports or things like skydiving. When I did it in Mexico, it cost me about $65 plus I tipped. That price is totally worth the experience. You don’t need a ton of extra equipment. In fact, you need to have too many clothes on. I went parasailing in a Speedo.
2) It’s Like Flying
Once you are maximum altitude, you float along at about 38-50 stories in the air. This is about as close as a human can get to flying with our current technology. There’s no plane surrounding you, no bulky equipment, and no loud noises. You get use to the sensation of floating through the air free of everything.
3) It’s Relaxing
It’s much quieter than you’d imagine 50 stories in the air. You can’t even hear the hum of the boat below. Every so often, you’ll hear the wind blow past you but that’s about it. Meanwhile you sit in your seat and gaze at incredible 360 degree views. The pressure of the air against your body helps you feel less stressed out and breathing in that salty air just releases the endorphin while you come down from a rush of adrenaline. The feeling is incredible!
4) It’s Safe
Parasailing really is safe. You get to experience floating through the air without hurtling towards the Earth at horrifying speeds (like when you go skydiving). You’re tied to a boat which is pretty secure and you’re close enough to the water for a decent landing should anything go wrong. It’s one of the safest water activities.
5) It’s A Great Memory
Once you’ve parasailed, you won’t forget the marvelous views, the calming quiet, or the feeling of floating through the air. You’ll freedom and a sense of discovery. For such little effort, the reward is amazing. Not to mention, you’ll have an amazing story to tell later.
So give it parasailing adventure travel activities a try. Live life to the fullest and, in the end, you’ll have tons of stories!
